Introduction to ESL Instruction in Taiwan

( Teaching English as a second language) 

80% of our foreign students either teach ESL part-time or full-time while learning Mandarin. Teachers  from a country where English is their native language are more in demand. 

Most teaching vacancies are found among language schools , Kindergartens , Elementary schools and High schools in Taiwan. 

Some students teach privately either at their students homes or at an agreed upon location. 

Private one-on-one Teaching can be very rewarding for both student who gets individual attention and for the Teacher who sees results faster and who generally gets a higher tuition remuneration than teaching in an institution. Normally private classes take a while to build-up as they are usually found through word of mouth introductions.

Salaries and hourly tuition rates 

Full-time Salaries are generally between NTD55,000 to NTD70,000 per month ( approximately USD1600 - USD2050 ). Work times are more or less between 09h00am and 17h00. There is normally a 90 minute or 2 hour lunch break at midday.

Part-time salaries are in the region of NTD30,000 ( USD 880) for Teachers that teach mornings 08h30am to midday or if a language school between 3pm- 7h00pm. 

Average hourly rates for Teaching are approximately NTD600 (USD17) per hour. 

Private tuition can be anywhere between NTD700 to NTD1200

( USD20 -  USD35) per hour.

Salaries/ Tution rates depend on a few factors such as  which country you come from , your students financial capability , how many hours you agree upon for classes  and your experience in Teaching.
